William’s story: Prostate cancer and the importance of clinical trials

portrait of Bill

Before I was told about clinical trials, I never thought about it. I did not have any notion of what clinical trials were.

-William

In 2004, William’s life changed when he was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer. The news hit hard, leading to moments of deep worry. Initially unfamiliar with clinical trials, William’s perspective changed when his doctor suggested a trial during his radiation treatment. Supported by his wife and reassured by his healthcare team, he decided to join the trial.

Because the trial treatment made him tired, he chose to leave the trial after six months. But the care he received remained consistent. William’s experience transformed his outlook on the importance of clinical trials and the need for greater participation from people of color.

He shares his story in this short video.
